Dopo l’esperienza diretta in un laboratorio di tessuti batik in Indonesia, torno con una riflessione che mi accompagna da un po’: la programmazione di un’immagine prodotta con la tecnica batik ha una costruzione inversa rispetto al tempo lineare. Ciò che risulta alla fine è ottenuto per sovrapposizioni di cera, o di lattice come nel mio caso, che, una volta eliminate, rivelano il “passato”, quello che sarebbe stato irrimediabilmente perso se non fosse stato protetto.

After my firsthand experience in a batik workshop in Indonesia, I return with a thought I’ve been thinking about for some time: programming an image produced with the batik technique has a construction inverse to linear time. The final result is achieved through layerings of wax, or latex as in my case, which, once removed, reveal the “past,” what would have been irretrievably lost had it not been protected.
